Markus Michelucci & Sound Refuge Bio

Markus Michelucci is a Canadian singer and songwriter, and the frontman of London-based folk collective Sound Refuge.

Whether he’s with the band or flying solo, Markus’s music brings an eclectic blend of calm and commotion, melancholy and hope – both in the studio and on stage.

Since starting Sound Refuge in Vancouver, Canada, in 2009, Markus has curated a transient troupe of talented musicians, relocating to London in 2013. Together they create cerebral melodies, bold instrumentation, and haunting harmonies, all underpinned by stirring lyrics. It’s a sound that stands alone but is reminiscent of Cat Stevens, James Taylor, and Passenger.

Markus has released three albums – the latest, Beautiful Intruder, was released in April 2022.

He’s performed at Into the Wild Festival, Barnival, Greenwich Tall Ships Festival, and Rochester Sweeps Festival. And he’s played live on BBC Kent Folk, Shoreditch Radio, Alan Carr’s Happy Hour, and at Sofar Sounds in Edinburgh. You can also find him entertaining the crowds at London’s Borough Market and on the Southbank.
